If you want to ask about a flat in any language, there are certain words and phrases that you should definitely know. Finding a flat in Egypt, or any Arab country might be difficult if you have trouble finding the right words and phrases.
This article and other valuable articles give you some useful phrases that you will need in Egypt. You can use these phrases in many Arab counties because Egyptian Arabic is very popular across the entire Arab region.
What is the Flat’s Price?
If you want to ask about the flat’s price, you just say se3r el-sha22ah kaam? Here, se3r means ‘price’, and kaam means ‘how much’.
Is the Flat Near a Station?
The location of the flat is of course very important. Being near to the station (Train/bus/underground/tram) is a deciding factor that you should consider from the very beginning. The phrase heyya el sha22ah orayyebah men ma7at’et el-bus/metro? is your phrase here. orrayyeba means ‘near’.
How Many Rooms?
The number of rooms is also a very important factor, especially if you are moving in with your family. To answer about the number of rooms, you just ask kaam oudah?. The word oudah means ‘a room’ in Egyptian Arabic.
Which Floor?
Let’s suppose there is no elevator in the building? or that you like the flat to have a balcony with a nice view? Then asking about the floor comes with quite an importance here.
To ask about the flat’s floor, just say el-door el-kaam? It is interesting that we use the word door in Egyptian Arabic to refer to the floor.
What is the Flat’s Number?
The flat’s number means in Egyptian Arabic rak’am el-sha22ah. If you want to ask about the flat’s number, you just add ‘kaam’ at the end of the phrases. So it becomes rak’am el-sha22ah kaam? or you can even simply ask: sha22ah kaam?
What is the Flat Area?
Similar to what we said regarding the number of rooms, you can also know the area of the flat asking mesa7et el-sha2aah ad eih? or mesa7et el-sha22ah kaam. The word mesaa7ah means ‘area’ in Arabic.
Rent-Flat
You may want to rent it or own the flat. A ‘rent flat’ in Egyptian Arabic means sha22ah igaar. This comes from the verb ye2aggar means ‘to rent’
Owned-Flat
On the other hand, if you want to own your own flat then your right phrase is sha22ah tamleek. Tamleek comes from the verb yamtalek means ‘to own’
What is the Address?
Our last phrase here is well connected to the location of the flat. If you want to ask about the flat’s address, you just say: eih 3enwaan el sha22ah? 3newaan means ‘address’.
